Good. The British gave India something really precious -- the English language. And they gave India a lot more than just the English language -- they gave it an extended period of stability, they developed its infrastructure and they also gave it peace from the internecine fighting and conflicts that preceded their arrival in India (and which, I may point out, have flared up again after the British left India).

Rational:
As I have said before in earlier posts, English language is the greatest contribution that the British have bequeathed to India and the world.
The reason why we Indians are here in America and working in many fields of endeavor is because of our knowledge of English.
If the Chinese had the same opportunity, they would be here in our place. That does not mean that everything about British was hunkydory.
