Krugman's opinion about the asset market should have (and thankfully, seems to have) no effect on the Fed's monetary policy, which by its charter is supposed to focus on comsumer price stabilization. Several investors from both sides of the bull-bear debate want the Fed to consider asset prices as well (a recent editorial in the Economist made this point, for example). Well, I guess the Congress needs to vote to change (or leave unchanged) the Fed's charter first, then?
