Business Week: BellSouth Getting Ready to Make a Run
at Sprint?

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 1999--Business Week has learned from sources
with knowledge of the situation that BellSouth Corp. (BLS). is preparing a bid of its own for
Sprint (FON), which has been in active negotiations for more than a week with MCI
WorldCom (WCOM). As of Oct. 1, BW reports, BellSouth executives were leaning toward
making a full bid for all of Sprint. BellSouth, however, is unlikely to have its counteroffer
ready before the Sprint board meets on Oct. 3. Any bid for Sprint likely wouldn't come until
the following week, sources say. All three companies declined to comment on the situation.
