jon, you said >Will turn computer off and walk the dog. Will try again tomorrow.<

I like your philosophy of life! Many could learn from it. :)

well jon,

don't worry about making an ass of yourself. if it's any consolation to you, i went to netscape communicator newsgroups just now. the place is crawling with 'jar file' problems coupled with 'not enough disk space' error messages. <g3> so it's you and many dozens of others running up against the same difficulty download 4.7.

most netscape browser errors seem to get worked out quickest on the newsgroups, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep an eye out over there. but then there's guys who walk right in on a download and get it right in one nice clean shot. crazy, huh?

but there is one last thing, and it gets preached here an awful lot. that's preparation. prior to installing software it's always strongly advisable to delete all cache, cookies, and temp internet files. then run defrag. then scandisk. then shut off any antivirus software you may have running. it, more than anything, is notorious for interfering with a clean install. to be extra safe, prior to installation, go ahead and and shut off everything running in the background except explorer and systemtray. i can't tell you how many times doing these few preparatory things has meant the difference between success and aggravation.

sometimes netscape automatically installs right after download (i think 'smart download' does this). point being, you are not given an opportunity between download and install to do all these cool things. so if it looks like netscape just jumps right into the install immediately after downloading, take care of these 'housekeeping' chores before you click the download button.

i wish you well.

:)
