Well, Aziz is underscoring the importance of Pakistan in the context of Central Asia and West Asia.

And of course, the US does realize the importance of Pakistan and that is why it is issuing statements about how it would like Pakistan's elected government to stay in power. That is what has kept the Pakistan military at bay and has given a measure of stability to the civilian government headed by Sharif.

Aziz is simply trying to get more than what America has given so far. Nothing unusual there. At the same time, he (as well as the US) know fully well that if things went so bad that the military took over the country, the whole region will be thrown into turmoil and instability.
