Maybe so. But the fallacy I was pointing out was that Believing was no longer a part - it was *as good as* actually Being. Now imo regarding the examples you cited - in each case there was a function test of the confident belief. And what we allowed Reagan and successors to do is remove the call for a function test. (Imagine the Super Bowl finalists deciding the game was superfluous - and both going home to victory parades!) Was it really Morning in America? Sure if you were a yuppie stockbroker!! But what about UAW members, indole chemists or institutionalized schizophrenics? For these I assure you darkest night fell. That's an awful lot of "broken eggs" for the rich, creamy omelet of national warm&fuzzy. Mho of course.
