Before AOL, Prodigy, SI, RagingBull etc., there was CompuServe, with the Investor's Forum (InvForum) in good old ASCII format, with a pretty active message board (few hundred messages total a day) and a strong sense of community. Some of us were "SysOps", who ran "shifts" providing help to newcomers, and pulling solicitations / spam after peer review. Ran at 300 then 1200 baud. In lieu of hypertext URLs, the forum supported "libraries" where members could upload stuff (charts, long text, etc.).

Regards,

John
