The reason I say C minus (and I am merely handing the essays back for teacher) is because the impeachment thing apparently didn't weaken him at all. Americans love an Aggrieved Party. The really vitriolic assessments of the man's character and actions (rape character. Actions are what counts...) were successfully associated with the reactionary "Family Values, dammit!" right wing.
But hey, I didn't get to do the grading.

Clinton and Reagan- both divorced form reality, both starring in their own movies- Clinton's just happened to be a porno movie. I am sure Reagan thought he was in a Western- but life isn't as simple as black hats and white hats. I guess that is why I despise the man so much. No sense of nuance. So it probably makes it easy to make decisions if you see the world simply- but were the decisions correct? We won't know for a long time. Evaluating Reagan in an historic context now is impossible- we are too close. The fact that he was popular will fade away- what will remain are the results of his Presidency. If the excesses of the 80's and 90's lead to a great depression, if the former USSR implodes because it fell too fast and too hard- my guess is his legacy won't look so wonderful. It won't make me like the man any better if his legacy turns out to be non- destructive- but I will feel better about his Presidency.
