RE: <THE PLAN... members.theglobe.com;

Yes, that's just about the size of it. A more modern version would go like this:

In the beginning Farmwald and Horowitz developed THE PLAN and the Assumption was: "If we provide a one byte interface at 500MHz then the entire world will soon have to use it due to Granularity" and the VC provided the bucks. But the dram makers said: "It is a crock of sh**, and it stinketh." But Intel decided that they could use it to enforce their plan to gain a larger share of the revenue from each PC and they said to the world: "Thou hast no choice -- use it!" And Rambus went to the press and said: "See our new Intel-specified interface with two bytes at 800 MHz. Notice that 800 is greater than 100 so this must be wonderful!" And the OEMs said: "It hast no benefit in our products other than hype." And Intel said: "It mattereth not a whit what you think!" And the industry held its nose and plunged into the abiss and there was much misery throughout the land. Then one day Intel said: "Must we endure this monkey on our back? Hell, no!" And Rambus was dumped on the trash heap and darkness was lifted from the land.
