there is another test you should know about...its called miraluma which is a brand name for an agent called sestimibi which is an alternative screen to mammograms in women with dense breast....many womens' mammograms are really impossible to read especially young women because the breasts are dense... or in women who have fibrocystic disease...so if they tell you that you have dense breasts or fibrocystic disease you should consider screening with this scan above which is good even when breasts are dense...it is not perfect however as its only good for lesions 1 cm and above...mammograms can detect lesions down to .2 cm, usually a small calcified spot, and thats why it remains the best early screening test for most patients...each HMO has its own way of doing business...my understanding is most believe in screening mammograms because ultimately they know it will save them money...at what age they start allowing this depends on the HMO....the yield in younger patients is relatively low so it that group it cost more to screen than to find so thats where the problem comes in...everything is based on cost....there are test out there now that can detect lots of stuff early but we do not get them...so decisions are made for groups without consideration of the individual...that is why it is good to have a Doc who remains independent....someone who can think what is best for you and not the group or worry about the cost

ps I have had MRIs of my whole body as there is no radiation involved and I have friends who own this stuff and do it on me for free....if cost were no factor then everyone should do that...think about it a doc putting his hand on your belly to check for a problem vs an MRI?...someday as computers speed up everyone will have a routine physical exam like on startrek..this day is coming sooner than people think

Blue, why did Mrs. Blue examine herself initially? Thank heavens she did, but many who are younger than, say, 45, might not think to do so.
It is so important for everyone to become familiar with themselves so that they can detect changes.
