re: the tone of the request implied that the poster was looking for maximum performance. That makes Oracle the clear choice.
at the moment, MS SQL is actually higher in performance on equivalent hardware - look at the current TPC or specweb benchmarks. But currently, MS SQL is limited to 8-way systems, where Oracle can run on much larger platforms in its Unix flavor.

This can give Oracle better absolute numbers, but only at a much higher cost to do the same job.
