Liz -- the whistling next week will be earnings -- 'here come earnings -- who's afraid of the big bad Fed'. This whistling will be a desperate attempt to avert a sharp drop. Against this very choppy/tense background, gold will fly on the heels of a strong tankan. And if the Fed pulls the trigger -- oh my, Joe B will look like a blockhead and Joe G will have this big silly smile.

>>'m going to go against the grain and say he'll raise.

Hope you are right. It would be hard to square a move now with the minutes released after the last meeting, as well as the FOMC members' oft-repeated intention to avoid surprising the market, but who knows. I agree that we're more likely to rally than to crash, but I have my doubts about the sustainability of any rally in the averages here.
