IMO msft does not indulge in much financial trickery - I think they do set a high standard in that regard. But if the industry in general does not eventually come to grips with the impact of billions in outstanding ESO plans, then there could be a reckoning at some point. I think the accounting principles should be gradually shifted to bring these liabilities onto the balance sheet in some form (perhaps over a period of many years), but I am certainly in the minority in that thinking.
