Presently, fuel cells run on diesel, methanol, gasoline, natural gas and similar fuels. . . down the road, there will be those that run on less combustible fuels. I can't handle power outages, brown outs, spikes, etc. . . and would simply love the feeling that I could flip the switch and be self-sustained. . .and not reliant on the city. . .

Natural gas is cheap and clean. . . Fuel cells will probably not make a major difference in the near future. . . but ANY departure from the longstanding methods is a step toward progress.

Think about it. The diesel engine was invented when? 1892 or so? The gas engine a few years later. . .and here we are 100+ years later with the incredible technology boom. . .still driving around in diesel and gas cars. It is silly. [I am however, happy to see Honda and others releasing hybrid gas/electric. I have wanted a hybrid diesel/electric for about 10 years now. . . but could not find anyone to make one]. . . what better way to generate power than 4 spinning wheels? Simply made perfect sense.

So a step away from the ties to standard utilities is a step in the right direction in my book. Give me some options. Solar panels are great, but fuel cells will work anytime anywhere. Why we only seem to use solar power for calculators, I will never know. . . One would think that by now, solar power on rooftops would be a way of life. And that brings us right back to the whole game of "who's ball is it anyway?"

I know it isn't ours.
