I don't think that this kind of conversion is expensive. The manufacturing line exists and they can retarget it to Sdram just by changing the masks.

One aspect of this that no one has reported on is that Samsung has been using their best technology, the 0.19 micron technology, for Rambus. Now that technology will be used for Sdram which means that 256 MBit, PC133 with CL2 will be produced. These Sdrams will be superior to Rdrams in latency performance and far superior in cost per bit while having a large market with high prices due to the current shortage of Sdrams. Yes, Samsung will require some convincing before switching back to Rdram.
