I've talked with Rambus people every year or two throughout their history and I've always asked them about this and they've always been evasive and mumbled something about being correct by design, the way that ASICs are often tested at low speed and then guaranteed to be correct if some delay line parameter meets spec. I've always told them that I didn't think that would work and they've always looked baffled.
