Uncle Frank,

But now that I made the painful decision to diversify and been rewarded for my misinformed move, courtesy of Lady Luck, I think I'll hang in and root like hell for GI and TV Guide to fold.

They are partners in the making. The TV Guide brand will license Gemstar and share the ad revs. They will pass the per unit licensing fee onto their boxmaker, GIC. Whether they settle soon as rumored or go back to court for another round makes little difference to me because Henry is executing his retail strategy and neutral licensing policy to enable other entrants.

This has all been posturing by cable for better terms IMO. Where they first tried to wait Henry out with the litigation game I believe they now realize that time in on Henry's side as the guides get into more and more households via the retail channel. In less than 9 months cable STBs will be marketed by the likes of Thomson, Sony, Panasonic, Philips and the other CE OEM giants. The inevitable agreement will be spun as win-win. Henry will praise TV Guide who in turn will extol Gemstar's technology.

Regards
Stew
