Kash, nice to have a civil discussion with you. I hope we can do it again.

Re: "Us ASIC boys have nothing like 5-20K DPM."

I have no way of knowing who you are or what you produce, so I can not speak to your situation, but it is perceived in the industry that ASIC DPM rates are in the 5-20K rate. The question is how do we measure it? I am going by customer perceived DPM and we have measured it from a number of suppliers over millions of parts. If you guys are beating that number then good for you. You are the exception rather than the rule.

Re: "Seriously the validation of critical paths by simulation is fine and works day in and day out- AS LONG as the SIMULATIONS show that 99.9999% of parts easily meet the critical path."

Sure parts meet the simulated timings most of the time if you design to 6 sigma. But the purpose of production testing is to screen out manufacturing defects. It's not just stuck at faults, delay faults exist too. If you don't catch them at test then your customers get to find them. If your test capability doesn't cover the vast majority of delay faults then you can't really measure your DPM. This has been a long standing knock on ASIC test methodology. If you guys have a way of covering this then fine, but most ASIC vendors don't.

Re: "I sure hope they can fix the problems (speaking of RamBus) but they are certainly Non-Trivial."

Like I said before, I'm sure glad I'm not the one who has to solve this one!
