The 374B figure doesn't work either because that would mean an average of $124,000 per account - a bit much, don't you think?

Terr,

The answer to this riddle is beyond me. I know that there are a number of very large, multi-million dollar accounts at Fidelity. Given the size of some the larger accounts, it might not take too many to bring the entire average up.

FWIW -- I know that the "average" size account at Ameritrade is in the $35K range...(now if Bill Gates has an account there, then that number grows considerably !!!) <G>

Perhaps it was 37.4 Billion, that would make it $12,400 per account. But, I really wouldn't be surprised if the 374 Billion was correct. remember, lots of IRA and 401k accounts, lots and lots of technology millionaires, including tens of thousands made millionaires through stock options, and we are undergoing the largest transfer in wealth from one generation to the next in history, and estimate of between 12-15 TRILLION between 1995-2015. So $124,000 per account might not be out of the question. Perhaps I'll call BW on Monday and see what they say. Cheers.
