Sure I get it. Yasushi Mieno was no gradualist Alan Greenspan. Plus Japan Inc was overbuilt, cross-owned on margin, and operating full-tilt but only near break-even. Then to make matters dire, everyone's biggest customer (the good old USA) suffered a nasty credit crunch.
