IMO your remarks are insupportable. When discussing history you ought occasionally to give a source, especially about specific remarks. If you have any evidence that Elihu Root influenced McKinley about the instructions to the peace commission you really ought to cite them. Before Elihu became SecWar I know of only one contact between then when Bill offered the ministry to Spain to Elihu who refused. Do you know what they talked about then? Do you know of any other contacts? Your disbelief in anything a President says is very cynical, but it removes any possibility of anyone taking you seriously on any historical question. Even a President must slip up occasionally and tell the truth by accident.
