Maybe the hint was in the other direction. Remember that the first change was from 4 slots to 3 for rambus. Perhaps Intel's recommended design limit has been changed to 24 devices per bus from 32 (despite the address range available). So the memory limit for the 840 would be 768 meg until higher density RDRAMS become available.

KZNerd, I forgot to tell you the reason why. (Whoops!)

I think some proliferations of Carmel will use branching hubs to increase the number of RDRAM channels. You'll be able to fit many more RDRAM devices onto a single main channel that way, although latency will take a hit.

I don't know what the hard limit on capacity will be, though. Maybe 4 GB?
