That thought crossed my mind, yet wouldn't lower paychecks mean higher earnings for companies, and wouldn't higher earnings mean better valuations of stock prices and employee stock options, ergo. a continued "wealth effect" and continued consumer confidence.

And wouldn't the flood of new programmers and techs back into the technology field from Y2K readiness positions help to increase the development of technology, thus increasing expansion, efficiency and finally productivity.

Of course this all hinges on the assumption that the world will continue to embrace the technological revolution that is before us now.
