OK, the anti-virus stuff is good. But what about the "hacker threat"? I read (Business Week (?), Forbes (?), somewhere) that the threat from hackers was bad and getting worse. This was not good news. Why can't these people get a life?

The article stated that Symantec was going to release a new version of some "firewall" software for individual users this month (Oct?). I contacted Symantec and could not get any confirming info.

So I downloaded the articles referenced "BlackIce" firewall S/W for $40. Seems to work. I got a message that I had 31 attempts/hits on my system. I really don't have much info on my computer but I still don't want anybody "breaking into it". The message from BlackIce stated that no access was made and it might just have been "a server" trying to inform me of "something". Or it might have been something called "script kiddies". Anyway, I guess I'm OK. But paranoid.

Is Symntec (or someone else) going to release firewall S/W for individual PCs in the near future?

Andy Grove might have been more right than he realized when he wrote, "Only the Paranoid Survive".

Regards.
