Don, thanks for the information...i was expecting the Tankan to beat expectations, but i'm still surprised by the margin. Japan's recovery has met with a lot of naysaying in recent months, and yet, the economic data continue to beat expectations and in some instances hint at an exceptionally strong recovery. the latest was industrial production rising at the fastest pace in 42 years.
but then, a look at the JGB yields, the Yen and the Nikkei would have told the tale to those who cared to listen...not to mention a TIME magazine cover on Japan that showed a flat tire as a representation of Japan's economy a few months back.
on the longer term Yen chart, there's still a gap in the 75 area that awaits filling...
soon, the unthinkable may happen...Japan raising interest rates.
