Re: The ball is still in AMD's court, and they've yet to hit it back....

There are enough buyers who will refuse anything but Intel to keep it solidly in the high end for a long time pretty much regardless of what chips are shipping. AMD has an excellent chance of attaining a respectable chunk of that market and making some money - finally. If the Athlon-successful scenario becomes the outcome, AMD'll make infinitely more money than they have been making for awhile, while Intel will make a little less.

I was just returning a little of Paul's bombast - next time I'll PM him. Intel couldn't avoid having substantial sales in the high end if they tried - and I know that you and a number of other extremely capable people are all working hard to... avoid avoiding? :-)

Regards,

Dan

<That depends on whether AMD can:

1) Continuously stay ahead of Coppermine in the MHz race
2) Successfully enter the multiprocessing areas, from 2-way to 4-way and on
3) Ensure that chipsets and platforms do not ensnare Athlon's performance
4) Deliver the volumes>

All good points! We should have some more info in the next couple of days.
