Uncle Frank: I agree completely with you that the key to Cisco's long term gorilla dominance is in its IOS software which grew out of its router tornado not simply the routers themselves. No question you are right.

This perhaps was not as explicitly covered in the Cisco case study as it should have been, but it is certainly key to me - and I have said so on this thread in the past. Again, agreed.

But once more, that is clear now, it was not so clear in 1993-4 - at least not to me - at the time I was consolidating my holdings into Cisco.
