Telia's new radio technology could threaten Ericsson
Svenska Dagbladet, 1999-10-02
Telia has launched a radio technology that allow PC owners to
connect their computer to LANs at airports, offices and
eventually in their homes. New radio technologies constitute a
threat to UMTS and change the whole image of how Swedish
households and companies access high-speed data networks.
This new technology threatens Nokia and especially Ericsson,
being in the forefront of new mobile technologies. Telia has
invested in several technologies that use broadband access via
radio links. The latest addition is called Homerun and Telia has
installed this at Arlanda and the train stations in Stockholm and
Gothenburg. Transmission speed is 2Mbps, 200 times faster
than today's mobile systems. Telia estimates that about 50
people can be connected to the same base station without any
decrease in transmission capacity.

BTW, Are you going to be in the Telecom 99 in Geneva?
