Canada would never let Air Canada go under. This is Canada only real domestic, international air carrier, its the public who is concern about the "merger" that they fear would drive up prices and degraded services.Onex bid might spike the stock price short time, but over all Air Canada is way better off rejecting their offer and soldier on themselves. The shorts would love this scenario but I personally feel that in the long run Air Canada is worth a lot more.

More suitors for Air Canada.Do not sell yet the bidding war is just beginning.Onex will now have to make a realistic bid for Air Canada.

What do you think will happen to CA??????? Do try to remember that it is CA who is going under.

From Eric Reguly from the Globe and Mail (paraphrased):

We let Canadian go bankrupt (Chapter 11 as they say) which allows them to swap their entire debt for equity, and since CA is profitable if we exclude debt payments and servicing, AC would face a stronger competitor after CA is allowed to go under.

All of a sudden the merger with CA looks a lot more attractive to AC shareholders....
