Justice examines Cisco, IBM contract yahoo.cnet.com Cisco Systems said a $2 billion contract awarded IBM in August is under antitrust review by the Justice Department. Under the five-year agreement, IBM is to supply Cisco with chips, parts, and services to help maintain customers' computer networks. Cisco will acquire several hundred patents for IBM switches and routers, which speed the flow of information across computer networks. As a result, within a year, IBM will no longer compete head-to-head with Cisco on most fronts in the market for networking equipment, IBM said when the contract was announced. The Justice Department began looking at the proposed arrangement "shortly after" the contract was signed, Cisco spokesman Doug Wills said. The Justice Department told Cisco on Friday that it needed more time to conduct the review, Wills said. "It's really a continuation of a pretty routine exercise," Wills said, adding that Cisco "expects a favorable decision in the coming weeks." He wasn't more specific.
