TruePosition and Bell Atlantic Mobile Team Up For Demonstration of CDMA Automatic Location Technology
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- TruePosition, Inc., a leading provider of wireless location technology and services, today announced that it has begun a field trial of the CDMA module for its series 2 TruePosition(R) Wireless Location System. The system was deployed during August and September in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania in cooperation with Bell Atlantic Mobile. The CDMA modules have successfully completed laboratory testing.
TruePosition has been designing its CDMA location technology over the last year, and is teaming with Bell Atlantic Mobile to complete the testing necessary for commercial release of the system.
Automatic location technology has valuable applications in areas such as directory assistance, asset management, and vehicular traffic management. In addition to the commercial benefits of automatic location, it has the capability to deliver location information within seconds to 9-1-1 operators handling emergency calls. Every day, more than 100,000 emergency calls are made from wireless telephones, and TruePosition's Wireless Location System can provide critical location information to emergency services personnel.
"We have been developing this CDMA location solution over the past year, and believe in the power of our technology," said Kent Sander, President and Chief Operating Officer of TruePosition. "This deployment will enable Bell Atlantic Mobile, which owns and operates the largest wireless network on the East Coast, to fully explore TruePosition's capabilities and the benefits of a network-based solution."
"We are confident that this demonstration will prove the value and effectiveness of a network-based CDMA solution, which represents the lowest- cost approach to deploying location technology quickly and effectively," added Sander. "We are planning for commercial availability in the fourth quarter of this year."
TruePosition's technology does not require modifications to handsets or antennas, enabling wireless customers to benefit from location services without changing their existing telephones.
This demonstration with Bell Atlantic Mobile marks TruePosition's first field deployment of CDMA technology. TruePosition has already implemented automatic location services for wireless carriers operating with other airlink technologies.
