Mittal & Murdoch in alliance for Internet 'eVenture'.thelnmgroup.com inland.com Murdoch ties up with Mittal for Internet venture (Tuesday, October 5, 1999) Our Bureaus in New Delhi/Mumbai-BsRupert Murdoch has fired his first salvo. eVentures, a joint venture between Softbank and a News Corporation-founded company, has formed an alliance with Ispat Group's P K Mittal christened eVentures India. The new company will focus on investments in Internet properties. eVentures will own two-thirds of eVentures India. The move on Murdoch's part comes close on the heels of his partner-turned-competitor, Subhash Chandra, announcing recently that E-Connect Ltd, promoted by Zee and V Jindal, will be investing Rs 400 crore ($89 million) over the next three years in developing Internet-related business in India.In a separate agreement, Acquavit Inc, an Internet `incubator' has merged with eVentures India. "Our commitment , interest and belief in the Indian market is very high. We want to help support the amazing enterpreneurial community in India which is showing an uncommon touch for the new economy sweeping the world," Rupert Murdoch, chairman and chief executive of News Corp said in a statement yesterday. He added: "P K Mittal has been a good aprtner of ours and he brings a unique business perspective to eVentures India." eVentures India will focus on both taking high profile Indian ventures to their full potential in India and globally and bringing Softbank/News Corp Internet properties to India. The alliance will offer cutting-edge technologies and business expertise to ventures in the Internet space, aiming to develop ideas and ventures into full-blown and successful entities. Acquavit's Neeraj Bhargava, Rajesh Jog and sandeep Singhal will now be partners at eVentures India and they will bring to this partnership expertise in the araes of strategy development, building of strategic alliances, business dveelopment, technical support and organisational development. "In addition to having secured P.K. Mittal as a valuable joint venture partner we feel fortunate to attract Neeraj, rajesh and sandeep to eVentures India. We share a common vision that eVentures can offer enterpreneurs real value in addition to access to capital," Mark Booth chief executive of epartners, said in a statement. epartners is a $ 400 million Internet, e-commerce and new media venture capital fund founded by News Corp and Murdoch's investment in eVentures is through epartners. Speaking on the alliance, a statement, quoting Mittal, said, "This joint venture will be a platform to present Indian knowledge and expertise to the world. The Indian consumer profile is changing fast and the Internet is becoming the focus of commerce." He was further quoted as saying, " In an era where commerce is getting increasingly competitive, eVentures endeavours to bring India closer to the global map."
