Jim : The bear market in gold, itself, certainly started in Dec 1987 (a few weeks after the bear market in shares started). It may not have been as dramatic as the fall in Dow/gold shares but, as you know, it persisted until 1993 and 1987 was, in fact, the last time POG sniffed $500.

Right now I don't believe any "ordinary" mortal knows what to expect with POG/gold shares --- except, I presume, to expect the unexpected. Nevertheless, my own models do show that $325-330 area could be the top. However, I will have to do the next point in two weeks time to be sure. If so, this will be the first time ever that anything has moved from "oversold" to "overbought" in 5 weeks. The parameters on the multiple regression model are bottom at $255 and top at +/- $325.
