No, just Standard Operating Procedure as they give the chip its commercial name to replace the code name it was developed under. Just like the Pentium, the Pentium II, the Celeron, the Pentium II Xeon, and the Pentium III.

What you're talking about is AMD renaming the KVII to Athlon because the KV, KVI-2, and KVI-3 were "less than 100% successful", shall we say. Plus AMD didn't want to be stuck with a "K-9" chip.
