<<<I hear you saying you that injecting live virus into a toddler or baby>>. Odd. I didn't hear me say that at all. > Sorry, looked that way to me, my apologies. <I think most of the vaccines are either "attenuated" or heat- inactivated or for example, SB's Recombi-vax which is recombinant in origin and incapable of causing the underlying disease.> It's my understanding do use some live virus [one or 2?] for vaccinations in this country, none are allowed in Europe however. I'm sure MOST is correct in both your assertions although not that reassuring to me. <have you or your kids ever gotten sick from anything other than a "live" virus or bacterium? > Since they are usually lumped together it's impossible to tell which caused what. <And if you ever think that you got ill from a vaccine all you have to do is call the FDA and they make the manufacturer investigate it. > It's my understanding that if a side effect isn't noticed within 3 days, it's not considered vaccine related and not in statistics reported... I have not talked to the FDA or other authorities about this, and may not be true with all vaccines. <But more to experience we can all relate to, generally the side effect of a vaccination is a mild febrile response. > As I stated, my belief isn't that vaccines shouldn't be used, but that they shouldn't be forced in all cases... the above is of course self evident. <There's a lot of data on the difference of immune responses of adults vs. pediatric populations. It's a basic "given" in transplantation medicine. I'll try to think of a good survey article to suggest.> Thanks, that would be great... may be mute however as my point is that it's my understanding that immune systems are not fully developed when many vaccines are given... comparing them to a 40 something was off topic by me sorry... any source on immune system development would be helpful, thanks. <So why would a vaccination "blast the immune system to smithereens?"> That's the million $ question. <There is no doubt that vaccines do add another challenge to a child's immune system. Some will result in completely unpredicted side effects that do not show up in even large, well controlled clinical trials. > Basically the point... and if a parent has reson to believe that a childs immune system is already weakend... I believe there should be flexibility on the regime and even an opt out. Luckily science moves along, and eventually this will hopefully be made moot by new science. I find it disconcerting that many pooh-poohing 'vaccine hearsay' do so because of lack or raw data, or because the raw data they have don't support the anecdotal data that keeps popping up with doctors 'in the trenches' the ones supporting the idea, and those with the databases doing the pooh-poohing. To me I couldn't imagine pulling the old 'cause & effect' out of the psych 101 book without data including extensive interviews... it wouldn't be scientific IMO. <Agree that many antibiotics do wipe out the valuable intestinal flora. Takes a while to repopulate, but you'd be surprised at what's on what you eat everyday. Your gut does not stay lonely for long. > Disagree strongly with the non-chalance of this statement. As far as I know there is no data to support flora growing back to it's normal state in all cases. There is lot's of anecdotal evidence supporting that it does not in at least a small % of the population. <On the connection to autism, my guess is there will be some lawsuits over this and each side will get the chance to "prove" the connection or lack of it. > Yes such a waste... sad really. Most of the people I am aware of just go there own way and are in court not for damages but on school related matters [can't go to school without the vaccine]. Personally I assume that the child would be strong enough by 1st grade to handle it, but if they're still having problems [showing symptoms] it's probably tough for the parent to do it regardess. < I could not reach a conclusion based on what was presented, but I can see how people could easily get upset by the show. I imagine it was intended to do just that.> Yes, that sells!!! They had a chance to talk about how the family treated the child, this is not that widely known and they had a spot on national TV!! Such trash. DAK
