DSPC Chipsets Selected by SANYO for New CDMA Handset World's Thinnest and Lightest CDMA Handset Uses DSPC D5431 Chipsets
CUPERTINO, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - October 4, 1999 ---DSP Communications (NYSE: DSP) today announced that SANYO Electronics Corp. has selected DSPC's chipsets and software for its new CDMA wireless handsets. Under the terms of the agreement, SANYO will use DSPC's new D5431 chipsets and software protocol stack that support IS-95B medium speed data services of up to 115 Kbps. The new CDMA handset will be unveiled at Telecom 99 in Geneva, Switzerland in October 1999.
"We are pleased that SANYO has again chosen to work with us for its new CDMA handset which has led to a world class handset design," said Paul Washkewicz, General Manager, CDMA Business Unit for DSPC. "DSPC's proven expertise in chipsets and system software has driven our relationship with SANYO since the early 1990's."
By implementing DSPC's industry-leading chipsets and software protocol stack, the handset achieves dramatically lower power consumption and improved operating performance. DSPC's CDMA software protocols provide support for circuit-switched and packet data for IS-95B data rate services. UDP/IP/PPP service protocols also enable support for built-in applications like handset browsers.
This agreement further expands DSPC's longstanding relationship with SANYO in the development of wireless handsets for CDMA and PDC. DSPC has successfully partnered with SANYO to introduce competitive models for the PDC standard, enabling SANYO to be one of the leading handset suppliers in Japan.
SANYO's new CDMA handset measures less than 10mm in thickness and weighs just 57 grams, making it the smallest and lightest CDMA handset in the world. Featuring an attractive, stylish design, the handset significantly increases talk and standby times.
The D5431 chipset comes with an integrated ARM7TDMITM host microcontroller, a rich set of internal peripherals, and is available in compact FPBGA packages. Using 2.5V operation and advanced power saving techniques, the D5431 achieves low power consumption levels resulting in an optimum power/performance ratio for CDMA handsets. With new enhanced sleep controllers, the D5431 enables up to 350 hours of standby time.
