When I hear geese at night they are usually talking. They do that more when flying than when on the ground. Full moon or snow tends to move them out.

I was in a goose hunting pit once when a dozen swan went by 200 yards away. I could hear each and every wing beat. They were something.

Be careful with the flashlight. In Timm's Ford Tennessee I shined a light on a flock of geese and one dropped like he was shot. He splashed down and two minutes later was gone but he was playing catch up.
