'tis not the technology, but as you point out, a carrier issue. The Japanese and Korean carriers are far ahead of our N.American carriers in deploying CDMA data services.

Why do you think Sprint went out of their way to deliver a data service, but they went with circuit switched service, instead of IS-95B packet switched service?

Is this a problem of lack of base-station equipment or handsets? How is it that the far east carriers can deploy, but Sprint couldn't?

Do you know more about the deployment schedule of the far eastern carriers? If I remember correctly from your earlier posts, you are located somewhere in Hong Kong or Singapore, right?
