Good question and I really don't have an answer, other than I recognise both names. Both are conglomerates, but I'm not sure if they merged.

OK just did a lil'bit of research and LG is Goldstar, who bought Zenith. Samsung is still Samsung. LG is into consumer electronics mostly, but do have some other stuff.
