Trojan wins patent decision Tuesday October 5, 9:46 am Eastern Time OCTOBER 5, 1999biz.yahoo.com Federal Court of Canada Rules Various Patent Claims of Trojan Technologies Inc. are Valid and Have Been Infringed LONDON, ONTARIO--Trojan Technologies Inc. (TSE/TUV) today announced an important milestone in the enforcement of its patent rights pertaining to proprietary technology used in one of its market leading products. The Federal Court of Canada found, in a Summary Judgment Motion, that various claims in Trojan's Canadian patent for its System UV4000(TM) are valid, and have been infringed by Calgon Carbon Canada, Inc. and Calgon Carbon Corporation (collectively, ''Calgon''). This decision is significant because it confirms that sale and/or manufacture in Canada of a critical component of Calgon's Aurora UV(TM) Disinfection System would infringe Trojan's Canadian patent rights for that component in the System UV4000(TM). Trojan has sought various remedies, including damages, in conjunction with the sale and/or manufacture in Canada of Calgon's Aurora UV(TM) Disinfection System. The Court has ordered that the trial proceed expeditiously in respect of the remaining patent claims which Trojan is asserting against Calgon. Trojan Technologies Inc. is a Canadian based high technology environmental company operating internationally. Trojan specialises in ultraviolet light applications for disinfecting drinking water, and for industrial and residential applications. With more than 2000 Trojan UV systems treating municipal wastewater in more than 30 countries, Trojan is the world's largest supplier of ultraviolet disinfection systems for municipal wastewater applications.
