I am sorry that you misunderstood my suggestion that the US was being altruistic..if anything I think it was the opposite..which led to the United States shouldering the rest of the world to prevent a global
depression and have United States go down the tubes-
I think that was Rubin's major flaw..(don't ask me to say anything about Greenspan..hopefully like the artist Matisse,some good soul will point out Greenspan's abilities..I haven't found them except in his blocking ability and denial)
I think rubin played our country like a trader and just didn't have a large picture how the dominoes would fall..
To me he was simply out to create jobs here..by doing whatever he could to drop interest rates..and to have the stock market create the economy..
ps Japan helped him big time by providing the liquidity and further helping our bond market to stay low
