If you look in ATT stores they are emptyt, Sprint is cleaning house.

That's true. But there are a lot of stores that are not official AT&T stores that are pushing mainly AT&T. These mom & pop small stores must be getting great incentives from AT&T. I think they sell a fair amount of phones, mostly to the first time buyers.

Now I have to find out more about these AT&T horror stories. Again, what prompted me to have a second look at AT&T is their new phone that is coming out in November (by Mitsubishi) that has larger screen, built in browser, the data service is CDPD, priced at $29.95 for unlimited access, or even less - $19.95 special when accessing limited number of places.

It impressed the hell out of me. You can build all kinds of Internet applications and use this kind of phone as a client. You can even build a Palm Pilot like apps, with only the dumb browser in your hand acting like a Palm Pilot (minus the handwriting recognition).

You never have to worry about transferring data. It's sitting somewhere out there on some corporate network, or on a Wireless Knowledge like service. Your broker will one day add interface for the micro-browsers, and you can access your account, trade anywhere.

I think it is going to be very big. But for now QCOM (or more precisely US CDMA carriers) are missing out on this opportunity.

"ATT is the absolute worst. There are fast buzy signals, heavy interference, and droped calls."

My sister is a heavy mobile phone user in the New York area. She had no idea what system ATT used, nor did she particularly care. All she knew was that its service stinks.
