I think cable itelf is becoming just another option, one of many, where a few months ago cable was seen as the preferred method for delivering internet content.

I agree. DSL and wireless options are getting more attention. The open/forced access issue has had exactly the effect that AOL and its partners wanted it to have. It's slowed the rollout and adoption of the technology. In the meantime, other methods have caught up.

I've had DSL for a year. I figured I'd use it only until cable modems arrived in my neighborhood. AT&T@home is still not available in my neighborhood which is one of the last in Seattle to be upgraded. By now, I'm not sure I'll get it when it's available. The DSL line has been rock solid except for one short period when the ISP was having some trouble.
