Nice post Neocon. First, I would say a progressive policy would be to get the dirt out of politics and reduce the politics in politics. The Republicans (and to think I was one once, whew) over the last several years have resorted to smut campaigning without addressing issues. Thus in a progressive spirit that should be stopped.

Progressive movement gets people off welfare and gets them jobs. Through hotly contested plans the current administration has reversed the upward trend in welfare roles, that is progressive policy.

The current administration has put more police on the streets and the crime rate is the lowest in 25 years. I don't know if putting more cops out there is progressive but reducing the rate crime is.

The current administration has steadfastly attempted to create a Health Care Program for all Americans, that is a progressive policy

The current administration has promoted free trade and world commerce that is progressive policy.

The current administration is trying to deal with our unacceptable murder rate being by far the highest in the world and doing something about it, that is progressive policy

The current administration is trying to have a balanced budget and use some of the surpluses to reduce the national debt, that is progressive policy.

Looking at the Republican Congress, which has no leadership and has an approval rate of 35%(yes most recent polls as quoted in Business Week found that the Republican members of Congress has this approval rating by the people) and is staring at losing the house and senate there are so many instances of regressive policy hidden behind the term conservative. Conservative is for things that work and do not need change. Conservative is regressive when is blocks progress just as left wing can be.

Currently the Republican congress is trying to block the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. What on Earth do they expect to accomplish other than fuel another nuclear arms race. They claim there is no way to test. Bullfeathers. This is an example of regressive policy, we had a runaway arms race and almost ruined the environment let alone blow the earth up and some of these boys want to start it up again.

44 Million Americans many of them kids don't have Health Insurance and the Republican party leadership wants to keep it that way, this is regressive policy.

Trent Lott, Tom Delay and the right wingers are trying hard make China the enemy, this is regressive policy, we don't need enemies we need friends. China has never started a war in hundreds of years yet somehow they are the bad guy. Maybe it is because they aren't Christian.

The Republican congress wants a massive tax cut to the wealthy while irresponsibly thinking surpluses will be there forever, rather than addresses issues that need solved like debt reduction, now that is Politics

These Republican buds are more worried about increasing the defense budget to feed their pork barrels when no one can find an the enemy, this is regressive policy

The Republican Leadership staunchly supports the Tobacco Industry as they continue on their crusade to get youngsters hooked so they can die early, this is regressive policy

And they support the NRA and are against gun control, this is regressive back to the wild west policy.

There are many good republican members of congress who are progressive, unfortunately, the party has been strong armed by the hard right and is a disgrace today much as the early 80's democrats were a disgrace and espouses regressive thought versus progressive thought.

Then Bill Vaughn posts that health care is available to all, ignoring the fact that 44 million, 44 million are uninsured, now that is regressive thinking.

This is a start at what I am arguing about!

Time to take my nutso medicine tell ToolMan I lowered the dosage
