MFNX has a stated sales policy which says that they only sell individual strands to enterprise users. That's retail.

They also have wholesaling arrangements with carriers, and a plan in place (already being implemented) to sell lambdas, or channels, as you call them, to qualified carriers.

I suspect that they will need to sell channels soon, even thought they claim at this time that they wont. I can see why they draw the distinction between carriers (who supposedly know what they are doing), and end users... who often don't. Lambda mapping and administration is relatively new to even the most seasoned practitioners.
