Sherry, it is perfectly normal for a parent to tease, as long as it is understood as such. It is especially prevalent among males to do so. For example, since we have discussed Yiddish, it is a commonplace among Jews to refer to an infant or toddler as a "little momzer", a little bastard. "Kootchy, kootchy coo, how is daddy's little momzer, huh?, how is he?" It is likely that Reagan picked it up from raillery among some of his buddies ("Hey, you schmuck, long time no see!") and passed it on jocularly to his son.....
