It occurred to me that I should explain. In essence, the barriers in Japanese markets amount to having Japanese consumers subsidize American consumers, thus increasing our economic well-being. Further, the foreign exchange earned by trade imbalances had to go somewhere, and since it was in the form of dollars, most of it became capital to invest in this country. Again, we win....
