I am not arguing against (what I think is) your implication that Japan caused their own demise.

But allowing somebody to dump into your market, completely unchecked is bad for business, causing huge numbers of manufacturing sector jobs to leave for good... these people are now the "working poor" to use an overused term...

The fact that the US came along and invented a bunch of stuff is all fine and good but we never really re-employed that displaced group it seems.

They also bought beans. Lots of soybeans. Enough to run the price from $3.50 to $12. Unfortunately most of the farmers missed this and the traders made most of the money. That was the year that storage bins paid for themselves many times over.
