Survivin - RE: Forbes article

Whoa, They say 800 in November! But they also said a 475MHz K6-III was announced in an earlier article. No such thing exists for sale.

Also from there - "According to U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray estimates, AMD's recent design wins at Compaq Computer and Toshiba have enabled the company to capture about 60% of the U.S. domestic retail market and 20% of the worldwide notebook market."

How's that for you???

20% and that is practically ALL in retail! I hope that 20% quiets all the naysayers (PB) about AMD overall notebook %. (I guessed 15%.)

With good news in that article comes bad news -

"AMD, on the other hand, despite its speed edge, is in bit of a financial pickle. The recent Taiwan earthquake has affected AMD quite drastically as two of its three main motherboard makers--GVC and Microstar--are out of commission.

The motherboard production was vital for AMD to ship its Athlon chip in any significant volume. The third motherboard maker, First International Computer, is running at about 60% capacity."

Wasn't this exact same info in an ebnews or eetimes article?

Better hope FIC can pump out enough this Q.

(Don't forget all the other vendors whose MBs haven't hit the market yet.)

RE <<<According to U.S. Bancorp, Intel's microprocessor sales in the third quarter topped 30 million units, up 20% from the previous quarter. Revenue for the third quarter ended September 30 is likely to be up 8% from the previous quarter to about $7.3 billion. Intel is likely to have earnings of 60 cents per share. It will announce third quarter earnings after October 10.>>>

If this info is correct, intc's Q3 revenues will be up only 8% YOY. That would be intc's worst quarter showing this year...revenue growth already was down to 15% this year and now its to drop further according to US Bancorp. This was fodder for some of the Barron comments.

So much for Barrett's promises for a better 2nd half.
