The @HOME internal network is pretty ugly in their ability to set and enforce policies! In fact, the ISP provisioner of @HOME here in my city has had major problems in controling how the end-users like us use the pipe. I was told by the Technical Manager of the service here that our city was generating 3 times more network traffic than Toronto - which had several times more users than us. The @Home Engineers for San Diego actually flew here because they thought our provider was being hacked! It turned out to be legit data traffic, BUT, us users were/are very creative and many here have set up NAT gateways/firewalls to run several PCs and even homes through the one residential link. Also, users were setting up FTP and Web servers as weel - which is clearly a policy restriction (Note - BorderManager was not an easy product to make this happen - this was pointed out to the BM team as well - not that I ever tried it).

Anyway, @HOME should seriously consider implementing a Directory based and enabled infrastructure so that @home security and access controls can be more efficiently set and more importantly - enforced.

They can only threaten the evil-doers for the most part. With a Directory Service - they could do more than threaten.

I hope you talked to them about that Scott?

Hello Scott,

Slightly off the cache topic but I was just on the digitalme site signing up of course :) and noticed the advertisement for AOL - have you heard anything regarding perhaps some sort of deal with AOL beyond the instant messaging one? In yesterday's conf call, Dr. Schmidt mentioned the ability to integrate email/instant messaging/personal id into one product (of course digitalme) so does AOL factor in as a possible user of this?

Of course it's total speculation but if you hear or know anything.... :)

Also I did click the link for info regarding digitalme and the Palm. Interesting dynamic here. Did you ever hear or see anything regarding Novell's NetTop development? Was digitalme an off-shoot of that project? Do you know who was involved with that project and if it's still "alive"?
